Boone, NC. – The Saint Francis Red Flash field hockey team (6-7, 2-2) defeated non-conference opponent Appalachian State Friday evening in overtime.

Appalachian State's Fredi Stegen struck first during the second minute giving the Mountaineers an early one goal advantage for her team. Saint Francis responded with back-to-back goals coming in the 13
th and 15
th minutes. The seniors
Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) and
Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) scored minutes apart putting Saint Francis on top 2-1. In the second half, Veerle Van Heertum notched a game tying goal in the 55
th minute from a shot taken from the top left side of the circle. During the overtime period,
Brea Seabrook (Wilkes Barre, Pa./GAR Memorial) scored the game winning goal off of the penalty corner. Her goal was assisted by
Samantha Olton (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Providence Girls Catholic) and
Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name).
