Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Bobby Dragon

Three goals helped the Red Flash climb to victory

Box Score

Loretto, Pa.- A late second half goal from freshman Ryan Berhorst (Imperial, Mo./Seckman) in the 69th minute helps the Saint Francis men's soccer team (6-3-2, 2-0-1 NEC) pull out a 3-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's (1-7-3, 0-2-1 NEC) on Sunday afternoon.

Olszewski Reaction
"It's difficult in any position to play behind especially in a conference game, said head coach Frank Olszewski. "A lot of character had to come forth, along with others stepping up and contributing. We have to build from this game and continue to get better."

Turning Point
Freshman Goalie Alex Morgret (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) kept the Mountaineers off the board in the second period with two big time saves that would have tied the game and potentially sent the match into overtime.

Highlights
  • The Mountaineers answered first on a header from Boris Nana Toris.
  • Junior Jacob Gratzer (Olmsted Falls, OH/St. Edward's) nets the top right corner of the goal as he takes advantage of a deflected chip pass from sophomore Christian Kirchhoff (Aarhaus, Denmark).
  • Two minutes later, sophomore Leonardo Ribeiro (Florence, Italy/Liceo Linguistico "G Pascoli") capitalizes on wide open goal as Mount St. Mary's goalie misplayed the ball trying to kick it away.
  • In the 61st minute, Mount St. Mary responded with a team goal that was deflected off a falling Red Flash player trying to clear the ball out of the box.
  • Berhorst connects on a breakaway goal in the 69th minute which put the Red Flash up by one. Senior Eric Ganime (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Icaro) contributed with a beautiful pass down field to the freshman.
