2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division 1 Scholars of Distinction
Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis field hockey team was one of the 61 schools selected as a 2017 Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division 1 Scholars of Distinction representative.
Four members of the Saint Francis field hockey team was honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association (NFHCA) for their 2017-18 academic successes as The Division 1 NFHCA Division 1 Scholars of Distinction. Saint Francis was tied for the second most representatives in the A-10 conference with four representatives. Only Virginia Commonwealth University had more representatives with five total.
The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher through the first semester of the 2017-18 academic year. Of the 138 student-athletes on the list, four hail from Saint Francis:
Kyra Castano (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin)
Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick)
Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton)
Marielle Cavallaro (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware Valley)
Saint Francis was also recognized earlier this week by the NFHCA for earning the National Academic Team Award for posting a team GPA above a 3.0. For the third straight season in a row the Saint Francis field hockey team posted a team GPA above a 3.0 during the first academic semester of the year. The overall team GPA was 3.518.
