FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Saint Francis Softball team clinched the NEC Regular Season Title on Saturday with a sweep at Sacred Heart.  The Red Flash won 2-1 in the first game and 1-0 in the second game against the second-place team in the NEC standings.  SFU improved to 32-17 overall and 12-0 in the NEC, while Sacred Heart dropped to 28-20 overall and 8-4 in conference play.

The Red Flash clinched its second straight NEC Regular Season Title.  Saint Francis will host the NEC Tournament in Loretto on May 10-12.  Saint Francis has two NEC series left, against Robert Morris on Wednesday, May 2, and Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, May 6.

With its sweep on Saturday, the Red Flash has now won 31 straight games against NEC opponents.  Saint Francis tied Jacksonville State (2015-17) for the 10th-longest streak in NCAA Division I history.  With its next NEC win, SFU will tie Fresno State (2015-16) for ninth all-time.  A sweep over RMU would tie SFU with Princeton (1993-96) for the eighth-best streak.

Saint Francis has won 12 straight games.  The streak began on April 14 at Wagner.  SFU has won 17 of its last 19 games.

Sophomore Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) threw two complete games on Saturday to collect her 23rd and 24th wins of the season.  In 14 innings, Trahan gave up only one run, unearned, and three hits.  She struck out 11 batters and walked just one.

Trahan has now thrown 221.1 innings this season, passing Laura Caldwell's 212 innings in 2008, to set a new SFU season record.  Trahan has already set the SFU season wins record, now five away from the NEC record, and has tied the season record for most appearances, with her 39th tying Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) in 2013.

Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) collected her 17th steal of the season on Saturday and the 52nd of her career.  Seneca is now one away from tying Kelly Slingwine (2006-09) for the SFU career record.  She also homered in game two on Saturday to extend her SFU and NEC career record to 47 dingers.

The Red Flash continues NEC play on Wednesday with a doubleheader at Robert Morris.  First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the North Athletic Complex.  The Colonials are 10-32 overall and 1-11 in the NEC.

Game 1
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) earned her 23rd win of the season with a complete-game performance.  In seven innings, she allowed just one unearned run on one hit.  She struck out five batters and walked one.  Trahan retired the final 12 batters of the game and 15 of the final 16.  It was Trahan's ninth time this season throwing a complete-game without allowing an earned run.

Kristen McCann got the start for the Pioneers.  She threw all seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits.  McCann struck out six and walked one.

Saint Francis drove in two runs on four hits.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) went two-for-two with a pair of RBI singles.  Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) reached base three times, including a single, and scored two runs.  Seneca and McKee each added a stolen base.  Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) contributed a single.

Sacred Heart's only hit came on a single in the fourth by Fallon Bevino.  Lauren Delgadillo scored the SHU run after a wild pitch.

The Red Flash took a one-run lead in the top of the second.  With one out, Seneca sent a chopper up the middle for a single.  Seneca stole second before Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) roped a single to right to drive in Seneca.

Sacred Heart tied the game in the bottom of the second.  After Delgadillo was hit by a pitch, Katelyn Christian reached on a fielder's choice, with an error allowing both runners to be safe.  A wild pitch allowed the runners to move up, with a wild throw to third, on the same play, allowing Delgadillo to cross the plate.

Saint Francis reclaimed the lead in the fifth.  Seneca drew a leadoff single.  A sacrifice bunt by Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) resulted in Seneca going to third after the base was left uncovered.  A single to left by Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) brought home Seneca to give the Red Flash a 2-1 advantage.

Game 2
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) picked up her 24th win of the year with a complete-game shutout.  She gave up just two hits, without walking a batter, and struck out six batters.  She retired 22 of the 24 batters she faced.  Trahan did not give up a hit until the fifth inning and retired 12 of the first 13 SHU batters.  After the single, Trahan retired nine of the final 10 batters.

Sacred Heart started Emily Orosco in the circle.  In a complete-game, Orosco allowed a run on two hits, while striking out nine and walking one.

Saint Francis tallied two hits, with the biggest coming off the bat of Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum).  The senior hit a go-ahead homer in the sixth.  Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) added a single.

Two SHU batters reached base, with Lauren Delgadillo and Stephanie Mangiameli collecting singles.

The Red Flash broke a scoreless tie in the top of the sixth.  Leading off the inning, Seneca blasted a 1-0 pitch over the wall in left-center.  The dinger was Seneca's fifth of the season and gave SFU a one-run lead.  Two batters later, Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) was hit by a pitch and Norton followed with a single to left to put two runners on.  However, a pop out and a groundout ended the inning with SFU leading 1-0.

Sacred Heart broke up Trahan's No-Hitter in the fifth inning, with a leadoff single by Lauren Delgadillo.  The Pioneers tried to move the runner over on a sacrifice bunt, but Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) picked it up and fired to second to get a key force out.  A pop out to Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) and a flyout to Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) ended the inning.
