The Golden Eagles Soar over the Red Flash

Flash Points:  
Charleston, WV- The Saint Francis men's volleyball team fell in four sets to Charleston on Saturday night in Charleston, West Virginia. The Flash fell 25-21, 13-25, 23-25, and 21-25.
 
Saint Francis falls to 8-19 overall and 3-9 in conference play, while Charleston improves to 14-9 and 4-8 in the EIVA.
 
Senior Brandon Buck (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) paced the Red Flash offense with 14 kills and finished with 9 digs. Stephen Braswell (Manchester, Pa./Northeastern) and Cole Thompson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) contributed with 11 kills each as Braswell finished with a team-high 12 digs. Freshman Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South High School) dished out 20 assist for the Red Flash offense.
 
Set One
The opening set was back and forth, neither team gaining a lead. After multiple ties, the Golden Eagles would go on a 4-0 run to push its lead to 14-10 and force SFU to call its first timeout of the set. Charleston would hold its lead for most of the set until SFU soared on a 6-0 run to win the set, 25-23.
 
Set Two
Much like the first set, both teams exchange points early on in the second set until UC jumped out to a 7-0 run to lead 16-8. The Golden Eagles never looked back as they would extend their big lead and win the set, 25-13.
 
Set Three
Equally contested, UC would jump out to a 15-11 lead in the early going before SFU would come back within one point (15-14) and force UC to call its first timeout of the set. From the timeout, the Eagles would jump out to another four-point lead until SFU would fight back again and tie this up at 24. Two Max Senica kills would allow UC to go on a 2-0 and win the set, 26-24
 
Set Four
The four match began with four ties as both teams continued to keep things close. The rest of the way would remain close until UC would eventually pull away and win the set, 25-21.
 
The Red Flash will return home as they host NJIT and Princeton for its final home matches of the season. Friday's match against NJIT is set for 7 p.m., while Saturday's match against Princeton is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday's match will be Senior Day.
