Red Flash Wrap Up Non-Con at Oxford Invite

OXFORD, OH- Saint Francis wraps up the non-conference portion of their schedule on Saturday as the Red Flash travel to Miami of Ohio for a pair of matches.
The Red Flash take on Oakland (Michigan) at 11 a.m. on Saturday before taking on the host Red Hawks at 6 p.m.

ABOUT THE RED FLASH
SFU picked up its first win of the season last week at the Valley Forge Invite after knocking off the host Penn Quakers in four sets.
The Red Flash offense is led on the attack by a pair of freshmen in Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) and Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East). Tyus leads the NEC with 133 kills and is second in the NEC at just over 3.3 kills per set. Adams had a pair of monster games against Duquesne and Penn last weekend (13 and 14 kills, hitting over 300) and is second on the team and seventh in the NEC with 109 kills this season.  Freshman Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, OH/Beaumont School) will be playing in her home state this weekend and is averaging over six assists per set, good for eighth in the NEC.

Defensively, freshman Jess Barrett (Broadview Heights, OH/North Royalton) leads the team with 145 digs, good for third in the conference and her 3.5 digs per set average is fifth in the NEC. Cecilia Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) and Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) lead the block, each averaging over a half block per set.

ABOUT THE OAKLAND GRIZZLIES
The Grizzlies were picked second in the Horizon League behind Cleveland State in the pre-season poll. They have played a gauntlet of a non-conference schedule against the likes of #20 Purdue, #20 Michigan and LSU and sit at 3-6 overall. Oakland has a balanced offense with five players recording at least 55 kills on the season. Jamie Walling leads the way with 83 kills, second on the team but a .249 hitting percentage. Defensively, Lindsay Wightman is averaging just shy of five digs per set while Walling paces the block with 1.1 blocks per set.

ABOUT MIAMI
The Redhawks are two-time defending MAC champions and were picked to finish fourth in the MAC East this season. They come into the weekend at 6-4 on the year after a 1-2 weekend at the Western Kentucky Invite. Margaret Payne was named pre-season all MAC and has lived up to the billing, hitting over 330 on the season and leading the team with 86 kills and 1.08 blocks per set. Gaby Harper is right behind her offensively with 82 kills and will be another player to watch on the attack. Lindsay Dauch leads three players who are averaging over three digs per set to pace the back-row defense.
