Red Flash ends weekend in 0-0 tie

Smithfield, R.I.-  An all-around defensive performance helped the Saint Francis men's soccer team (5-3-2, 1-0-1 NEC) complete a four-point weekend with a 0-0 draw at Bryant (1-6-2, 1-0-1) on Sunday.

Olszewski Reaction
"Lots of character shown this weekend by the whole group," said head coach Frank Olszewski.  "We are finishing a run of six consecutive away games. Of course we want to win every game that we go into, but at the end of the day we are stronger as a team. Now we have to get the proper rest, recovery, and build up as we look forward to our next conference match up at home on Sunday."

Turning Point
Freshman goalie Alex Morgret (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) kept the Bulldogs off the board in the first overtime with two big time saves that would have given Bryant its second victory in conference.

Highlights
  • Bryant tried to answer two minutes into the game as Jared Lee's shot on goal was saved by Morgret.
  • Junior Jacob Gratzer (Olmsted Falls, OH/St. Edward's) dished a high pass into a crowd of defenders as sophomore Kevin Smolyn (Holland, Pa./Germantown Academy) leapt to convert a header but it deflected off the top of the cross bar.
  • In the 48th minute, Smolyn kicked a low ball at the top of the box that rolled into the hands of Bryant's goalie.
  • On a set piece, a long kick from sophomore Brandon Ott (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) is off line as sophomore Leonardo Ribeiro (Florence, Italy/Liceo Linguistico "G Pascoli") tried to make a play with a bicycle kick, his attempt went wide and sophomore Gabriel Castro's (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Lausanne Collegiate School) header missed the mark.
