Red Flash outlast Chippewas in OT thriller

Mount Pleasant, MI – The Red Flash field hockey team outlasted the Chippewas of Central Michigan University in a 4-3 overtime thriller Friday night.

Turning Point

With no time left on the clock, senior Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton) delivered a goal off an assist from senior Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) to send the game into overtime. Govia guided the Red Flash to victory with a goal five minutes into the extra period of play.

Highlights

  • Agustina Deharbe (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) struck first for the Red Flash, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career and giving Saint Francis an early 1-0 advantage.

  • The Chippewas would immediately seize momentum as Tayrn Damm scored just 46 seconds into the second half. Imogen West later added a second goal at the 28:36 mark to give the Chippewas a 2-1 lead.

  • The Red Flash responded with a goal of its own as Govia tallied her second goal of the season, tying the game at two goals apiece.

  • With 12:26 left in the contest, Samantha Glapinski gave the Chippewas a 3-2 lead.
