SFU women's tennis falls at Navy, 6-1

Annapolis, Md. – Saint Francis women's tennis fell to Navy 6-1 in the season opener on Saturday at the Tose Family Tennis Center.

SFU freshman Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru) picked up the sole point for the Red Flash at No. 5 singles in a 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Navy's Danika Kahatapitiya. The Red Flash's No.1 doubles team of Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) defeated the Midshipmen's Annalise Klopfer and Kacey Moore, 6-4.

Saint Francis dropped its other four singles matches in straight sets and lost at No. 6 singles by default. Seigford was defeated at No. 1 singles by Navy's Ansofi Wreder, 6-0, 6-2. Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) fell at No. 2 singles to the Midshipmen's Kayla Hodge, 6-1, 6-0.

Navy's Aimee Dervishian knocked off SFU senior Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0. The Midshipmen's Catalina Rico defeated Bode at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Saint Francis' No. 2 doubles team of Miller and Gutierrez fell to Navy's Tina Li and Meghana Komarraju, 6-2. The Red Flash lost at No. 3 doubles by default to hand the Midshipmen the doubles point.

SFU will return to action on Sunday, January 20 at Morgan State.
