Red Flash women's tennis picks up win at Morgan State, 4-3

BOX SCORE Windsor Mill, Md. – Saint Francis women's tennis (1-1) picked up a 4-3 win over Morgan State (0-3) on Sunday at the Twin Lakes Racquet Club.

The Red Flash won four singles matches to secure the victory. The Bears won two singles matches and the doubles point, but were unable to overcome SFU's lead created by its top singles players.

Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) defeated Morgan State's Peggy Rooke at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) knocked off the Bears' Averiana Mitchell at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) won at No. 3 singles over MSU's Dana Santiago, 7-5, 6-3.

Morgan State's Oriane Yehouenou defeated Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) at No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-4. SFU's Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru) knocked off Jourdan Wallace at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3. The Bears won the No. 6 singles match by default.

Morgan State's No. 1 doubles team of Peggy Rooke and Asmara Rose defeated Seigford and Bode, 6-2. Saint Francis' Gutierrez and Miller combined to defeat Mitchell and Wallace at No. 2 doubles, 6-2. The Bears won at No. 3 doubles by default to take the doubles point.

The Red Flash return to the courts on Saturday, Jan. 26 at Youngstown State.
