Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

SFU triumphs behind career night from Tyus

Loretto, Pa. - Sophomore Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) had a night to remember, recording a career-high 24 kills to go with 16 digs as the Saint Francis women's volleyball team (2-16, 2-4 NEC) defeated Fairleigh Dickinson (1-19, 0-6 NEC) in four sets (25-11, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21).

Tyus wasn't the only one to have a career night as sophomore Keara McGraw (Austin, TX/James Bowie) contributed a career-best 16 kills to go with 10 digs. Junior Logan Belford (Loveland, Colo./Loveland) added a career-best 17 digs in the win.

Saint Francis cruised to a 25-11 opening set win behind six early kills from Tyus.

The Knights evened the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 win in the second set.

In the crucial third set, Saint Francis trailed 22-20 before Tyus and McGraw leveled the set with consecutive kills. The Knights would go up 23-22 before Saint Francis answered with three straight points, the last two courtesy of Tyus' kills.

The fourth set also went down to the wire with the teams knotted at 19-19. A kill from Tyus and back-to-back FDU errors allowed SFU to jump in front 22-19. With the score 23-21, SFU put a bow on the match thanks to kills from sophomore Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) and McGraw.

Adams was solid with 10 kills and seven digs while junior Shannon Thomas (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) was credited with five service aces.

Tyus's 24 kills were the most since Emily Marcinowski (Strongsville, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) had 24 vs. Bryant on Nov. 11, 2017.

Saint Francis nearly doubled up FDU in kills at 58-34. The Red Flash hit .205% as a team and recorded 9 service aces to FDU's three.

In addition to the win, the volleyball team received $1,000 in donation in its Dig Pink game with the money going to the American Volleyball Coaches' Association's Dig Pink/Side Out Cancer charities.

SFU is back in action on Friday, Oct. 18, at St. Francis Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
