Philadelphia, Pa. – Saint Francis field hockey (3-10, 1-3 A-10) fell to #12 Saint Joseph's (11-1, 5-0 A-10) on Sunday by a score of 7-2.
The action started close, with only one goal being scored in the first quarter, giving Saint Joseph's a 1-0 lead after one.
In the second quarter, the Hawks exploded for three goals and the teams went to halftime with Saint Joseph's up 4-0.
Saint Francis scored the first goal of the second half. Late in the third quarter, sophomore Natalie Scheib (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) scored her first career goal to cut the Hawks lead to 4-1 heading into the fourth.
Saint Joseph's scored two quick goals to begin the fourth, then added another goal with five minutes remaining to stretch the lead to 7-1. In the final seconds, Kellie Drugotch (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored her second goal of the season to cap off the scoring at 7-2.
Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) stopped 14 shots for the Red Flash. Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded an assist for her 14th point of the season.
Up next for the Red Flash is a quick turnaround for a nonconference match against Georgetown University at 2:00 pm Tuesday at DeGol Field.
