Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis women's volleyball team travels to Massachusetts to take on Merrimack (1-15, 1-13 NEC) on Fri., Oct. 25, at 6 p.m.
Scouting the Warriors
Merrimack is still in search of its program's first NEC win at 0-9 on the season and 1-15 overall. Senior outside hitter Catherine Flaherty leads the team with 107 kills while Emily Adams has recorded a team-high 16 blocks. The Warriors did win its first set in league play in its last seven contests last time out at Fairleigh Dickinson in a four-set defeat.
Series History
Saint Francis won the first and only meeting earlier this year in four sets thanks to 20 kills and 17 digs from sophomore
Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch).
Esposito Efficient at the Net
Senior
Cecilia Esposito (Coraopolis, Pa./Montour) has been rock solid in her senior season, leading the Red Flash with 40 total blocks. Esposito has had six matches with four or more blocks and tied her season-high with six vs. CCSU last Saturday. Look for her to put forth another big match on Friday as she also recorded six blocks in the first meeting with Merrimack.
Block Party
Esposito's strong performance at CCSU ignited SFU's best effort as a team at the net all season. The Red Flash blocked 12 Blue Devils attack, the most this season, and were particularly dominant in the first set with six en route to a 25-22 set win. Sophomore
Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) teamed with Esposito to finish with five total blocks.
Looking to Get off the Schneid
Saint Francis is 2-1 at home this season and 0-17 away from home. The Red Flash will look to buck the trend at Merrimack this week and showed promising signs at CCSU winning a set over the Blue Devils for their first set win on the road since a game vs. Geroge Mason at the UMBC Tournament on Sept. 7.
