BOX SCORE North Andover, Mass. - Sophomore
Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) recorded 18 kills and four service aces, and sophomore
Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East) added 9 kills as the Saint Francis women's volleyball team (3-18, 3-6 NEC) completed the season sweep over Merrimack (1-17, 0-11 NEC) with a three-set victory (25-22, 25-16, 26-24 ) on Friday night.
Saint Francis erased an early first set deficit to take a 14-13 lead on a Tyus kill. The lead was extended to 24-18 before Merrimack made things interesting with four straight points. Freshman
Jeanie Edgington (Olmstead Falls, Oh/Olmstead Falls) put a stop to the run with a key block to close out the set and give the Red Flash a 1-0 lead.
It was all Saint Francis in set two as the Red Flash used an 8-0 run capped by a kill from sophomore
Keara McGraw (Austin, TX/James Bowie) to open up a 12-4 advantage. Merrimack trimmed it to 22-16 but Tyus responded with consecutive kills to end Merrimack's hopes of a comeback.Â
The third set was the tightest of the night. Saint Francis led 21-19 but a 4-0 Merrimack run put the sweep in jeopardy. The Red Flash answered through Tyus who had a kill followed by a service ace. An Adams kill on the next play set up match point. Merrimack staved off defeat for one point but Saint Francis recorded the next two on a Warriors attack error and a Tyus kill.
