Red Flash fall to No. 22 South Florida

Tampa, Fla. – Saint Francis women's basketball (1-5) struggled offensively as the Red Flash fell to No. 22 South Florida (5-1) 62-23 on Sunday at the Yuengling Center. Junior Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) paced SFU with 10 points and four rebounds.

The Bulls jumped out to an early 7-0 lead before SFU scored its first basket as the Red Flash trailed 13-5 at the first media timeout. Following a South Florida three-pointer, Saint Francis closed the period on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 16-11 on back-to-back trifectas from Swogger and Jenna Mastellone (New York City, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy).

South Florida outscored the Red Flash 16-2 in the second period and held a 32-13 lead at halftime. The Bulls then scored 20 points in the third frame, while SFU only added four points. South Florida led 52-17 at the end of the third stanza.

Freshman Halie Murphy (Coral Springs, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) connected on a three-pointer for the Red Flash in the final period and the SFU defense held the Bulls to only 10 points. South Florida never felt threatened on the way to the win.

Saint Francis returns to action on Dec. 1 at Vermont. Tipoff at Patrick Gymnasium is set for 2 p.m.
