Red Flash Blanks Saint Louis on Senior Day

Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis field hockey team (5-14, 2-6 A-10) finished its season on a high note Sunday, defeating Saint Louis (0-17, 0-8 A-10) 3-0 on Senior Day at DeGol Field.

The Red Flash was operating on all cylinders against the Billikens, holding them to no shots in the first half and outshooting them 12-4 in total.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Red Flash got on the board on a second quarter penalty corner. Samantha Olton (Diego Martin, Trinidad/Providence Girls Catholic) inserted the ball to Taylor Nesmith (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who passed it to Taylor Massage (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey). Massage rocketed a shot to beat the goalkeeper and give the Red Flash a 1-0 lead. The score stayed 1-0 until halftime.

Halfway through the third quarter, Saint Francis added to its lead when senior Celeste Azzari (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) found a loose ball in the circle and placed a beautiful shot in the corner of the net to put the Red Flash up 2-0.

With 10 minutes remaining in the match, Nesmith was driving towards the net when she found Agustina Deharbe (Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Catherine's Moorlands) wide open. Nesmith's pass ended up right on Deharbe's stick, leading to the third and final goal of the day.

Taylor Massage's (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) goal was her first of the season.

Celeste Azzari's (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway Regional) goal was also her first of the season.

Deharbe's goal was her sixth.

Goalkeeper Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) made two saves en route to her first shutout of the season.

The 2019 season has concluded for Saint Francis, and it will now be heading back to the Northeast Conference for the 2020 season.
