Red Flash topped by Toledo, 6-1

Toledo, Ohio – Saint Francis women's tennis (1-4) fell to Toledo (2-0) in a 6-1 decision on Friday at Two's Athletic Club.

Senior Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) picked up her second straight win in singles as she defeated Toledo's Kiersten Carlson at the No. 4 position, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. In No. 1 singles, the Rockets' Deedee Leenabanchong knocked off Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur), 6-2, 6-4. UT's Eileen Carney won at No. 2 singles over Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN), 6-1, 6-0.

In No. 3 singles, Toledo's Kokoro Chishaki defeated Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School), 3-6, 6-3, 10-7. The Rockets' Christina Fuller took down Romina Cutipa (Huancayo, Peru/San Juan Bosco) 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. In her first action of the season, SFU's Kathryn Dunleavy (Farmington Hills, Mich./Mercy) fell at No. 6 singles to Claire Aleck, 6-2, 6-1.

In doubles competition, the Red Flash's Bode and Seigford teamed up at No. 1 doubles to knock off Carlson and Leenabanchong, 6-4. In No. 2 doubles, Chishaki and Thalita Rodigues defeated Cutipa and Gutierrez, 6-3. Fuller and Aleck won at No. 3 doubles over Dunleavy and Miller to secure the doubles point for the Rockets.

"Our girls played a tough MAC team, but hung in there making Toledo earn its points," Head Coach Lisa Swope said. "Senior Steph Miller came out with a win, wearing her opponent down in another three-set match."

Saint Francis has a quick turnaround as it plays at Detroit Mercy on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.
