Radford, Va – The Saint Francis lacrosse team (0-1) opened its 2019 season on Saturday with an 18-13 loss at Radford (1-0) despite a seven-goal game from senior
Morgan Day (New Park, Pa./Kennard Dale).
Concheck's Reaction
"Today was a dogfight," said head coach
Kara Concheck. "It was our game to win if we would have taken care of the ball better. Overall, it was a positive learning experience and we will move forward with our heads held high."
Turning Point
It was a closely contested first half that saw Day and sophomore
Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) score back-to-back goals in the final two minutes of the first half to tie the game at six at halftime. The Highlanders seized momentum out of the half with a 5-0 scoring run to take an 11-6 lead. The Red Flash responded with a 4-0 run thanks to goals from Day and freshman
Autumn McHenry (Branford, Conn./Branford) to cut the deficit to one. After the two teams traded goals, Radford netted three straight to take a 15-11 lead. Saint Francis was unable to get closer than that as Radford went on to win 18-13.
