BLOOMINGTON, IND.- The Red Flash wrap up their non-conference showcases this weekend with a trip to Indiana to take part in the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington.
Saint Francis will take on the Ohio Bobcats (15-8) and Toledo Rockets (7-12) out of the Mid-American Conference on Friday and Saturday and the Host #12/15 Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday in a game that can be seen on Big Ten Network Plus ($).
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
The Red Flash come into the weekend at 8-15 on the season and will look to snap an eight-game losing streak. In that streak, SFU has lost once in their last at-bat, once in extra-innings during International Tiebreaker Rules, led Michigan State into the sixth inning and took now #3 Alabama into their final at-bat before falling 3-1.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
During the spring break trip, senior
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) broke
Madison Cabell's (Ivor, Va./Southampton) record for career hits with her 203rd career base knock last weekend and remains one homer shy of tying
Jordan Seneca's (Plum, Pa./Plum) career home run mark of 48. The senior is leading the team with a .446 batting average and leading the NEC in slugging, total bases and RBI. Also on the brink of history is
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois), whose next is her 200th and would join Norton and Cabell in that elite club in Saint Francis history.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
OHIO
The Bobcats are the reigning Mid-American Conference Tournament Champions and are off to another solid start this season, coming into the weekend at 15-8. Senior utility player Morgan Geno has led the offense, pouring in 27 RBI to date, more than double her closest teammate. Geno has driven in Katie Yun routinely this season as Yun leads the team with 32 hits and is tied with 14 runs scored. In the circle, underclassmen Madi McCrady (sophomore) and Mackensie Kohl (freshman) have led Ohio. McCrady leads the staff with eight wins while Kohl owns a team best 2.31 ERA.
TOLEDO
Toledo comes into the weekend at 7-12 on the season. The Rockets were picked 10th in the MAC pre-season poll. Toledo was also a part of the USF tournament that the Red Flash competed in last weekend and each squad shares a loss to Army. Kylie Norwood is leading the team in average at .378 and 12 RBI. The Rockets are averaging just over three runs per game and have been kept in ball games thanks to stellar pitching. Maggie McGurk leads the team with a 2.03 ERA and Erin Hunt has an ERA just over three in a team high 41 innings pitched.
INDIANA
Indiana wasn't one of the six Big-10 ranked in the NCAA pre-season poll but they are certainly ranked now, rising to #15 in the latest poll thanks to a 21-3 start to the year. The Hoosiers have wins over #8 LSU and #9 Georgia. Indiana sports a balanced offense with three players in double digits in RBI and three more with eight. Kacie Lacefield leads the team with a .353 average and five homers. The Hoosier pitching has been lights out, with a team ERA of 1.36 and two pitchers with sub-1.00 ERA. Tara Trainer is 16-2 with a .83 ERA in 110 innings so far this season.
