Softball Wraps Up Home Slate with Bison and Blackbirds

LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash wrap up their home schedule this weekend, welcoming in the Bucknell Bison and LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds on Saturday and Sunday.
 
Saturday will be Youth Day at the ballpark with team posters given out to all kids in attendance. Kids are also welcome on the field for the starting lineups before game two and can run the bases after the doubleheader. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
 
ABOUT THE RED FLASH
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
SFU comes into the weekend off a doubleheader split at Kent State on Wednesday. MeKenzie Saban (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) paced the offense against the Golden Flashes with a pair of doubles and three runs scored across the two games. Her two doubles give her 19 on the season, good for second in the NCAA and just one behind tying the all-time single season record at Saint Francis.  Christina Clark (Avon, Ohio/Avon High School) picked up the win for the Red Flash, her 10th of the season. Meadow Uncapher (Mount Pleasant, Pa./Mount Pleasant High School) provided four-and-a-third innings of scoreless relief on Wednesday as well, picking up the save in game one.
 
EXTRA! EXTRA!
The Red Flash lead the Northeast Conference and are top-40 in the NCAA in all three extra base categories. Saint Francis ranks 19th in triples per game, 19th in doubles per game and 40th in homers per game, with an even one per contest. On an individual level, Saban's 19 doubles lead the NEC as do Hayley Norton's (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) 11 home runs. Saban and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) are second in the NEC with three triples each, respectfully.

Both Bucknell and LIU are near the top of their  respective conference standings. At 13-2, Bucknell is second to Boston in the Patriot League, the two teams play three times on the final week of the regular season.Allyse Volpe leads the team with a .398 batting average and leads four players with at least a .300 average. It is a balanced offense with two players with six homers and a third with five. Taylor Wolfgang leads the offense as one of the players with six long balls and driving a team-best 35 runs. Bucknell is led by a pair of pitchers in Raeanne Geffert and Lauren Lichtenwalner.  Geffert leads the squad  with 14 wins and a 2.86 era. Lichtenwalner is right behind her, going 11-5 with a 3.13 earned run average. 

For LIU, the Blackbirds also have a balanced offense, with five players hitting over 300. Alina Castillo leads the team with a 339 average. The team has been very balanced with as all five of those players have at least 17 runs scored. LIU doesn't rely on home runs, with just 11 as a team, but have ripped 39 doubles as a squad. In the circle, freshman Elena Valenzuela leads the team with a 13-3 record adn a 1.91 earned run average, including a 0.78 era in NEC play.

LOOKING AHEAD
Saint Francis will head to New Jersey for a make-up doubleheader with the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights on Saturday, May 4th first pitch is scheduled for noon.
