STATE COLLEGE, PA- Saint Francis earned a split with Penn State on windy Wednesday night, dropping game one 8-7 in eight innings and rebounding to take game two, 17-13.
Â
With the split, the Red Flash move to 15-21 on the season while Penn State stays even at 18-18.
Â
Game One Recap:
Â
The Red Flash put up a four spot in the first inning on Wednesday night. Saint Francis took advantage of Penn State's defense as
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) beat a throw to second on a
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) ground to load the bases. The Flash plated two off a throwing error off a Jordy Frank grounder and two more off a
Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) single.
Â
The Nittany Lions pecked away at the lead, scoring one in the first off an error and tied the game in the third off two doubles and a two-run homer.
Â
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) hit her first homer of the season to give Saint Francis back the lead. Penn State evened it back in the fifth, with a solo shot of their own. Again, Troxell came through in the sixth, cashing in on another Penn State error, knocking one off the first baseman's glove to score Jordy Frank. The Nittany Lions again answered in the bottom half, with another solo shot to tie the game at six.
Â
After a scoreless seventh, Jordy Frank put Saint Francis on top with a solo homer to left, her fourth of the season in the top of the eighth. Penn State had one final answer in the bottom of the eighth. After a one-out single, lead-off hitter Toni Polk hit a line drive shot over the center field wall for a walk-off home run.
