Red Flash Play Host to Pitt on Military Day

LORETTO, PA- Saint Francis is set to host the Pitt Panthers on Tuesday afternoon for a double header starting at two at the Red Flash Softball Complex.

It will be Military Day at the ball park with a pre-game cookout out in left field, military-themed warmups and plenty of other activities throughout the afternoon.

ABOUT THE RED FLASH

Saint Francis picked up a trio of key victories last week, splitting the six-game slate. SFU bounced back from an extra-innings loss in game one to Penn State by downing the Nittany Lions 17-13 behind MeKenzie Saban's (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) 5-5 day at the plate. It was a day to remember for the sophomore, who hit her first collegiate home run in the game while driving in five. It was the first 5-5 game since 2011.

The Red Flash went on to split Saturday's home opening double header with Robert Morris and Sunday's road twin bill at Mount St. Mary's. SFU now sits at 5-3 in the Northeast Conference with half of their conference season completed.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS

Pitt comes into the game at 6-32 on the season but did pick up a win at Missouri last weekend and own victories over Duke and UNC in conference. Pitt recently got back ACC First Teamer Oliva Grey back into the lineup after missing nearly a month. The senior drove in a pair in a close loss to Oregon over the weekend. Hunter Levesque leads the team in average at .284 and in RBI with 20 and is the only player to start in all 38 games.

The Panthers have pitched to a 6.76 team ERA. Abby Edwards leads the team with four victories and a 5.33 earned run average. Brittany Knight leads the team in strikeouts with 52.

SERIES HISTORY

This double header will be the 34th and 35th all-time meetings with the Panthers with Pitt holding a 23-10 series lead. Pitt has won the last five meetings between the teams including an extra-inning affair in Loretto in 2017. The Red Flash last knocked off the Panthers in 2012, taking game two of a double header.

FOLLOW ALONG
Tuesday's double header will air on NEC Front Row with the team of Rob Longo and Matt Popelka handling the call. Live stats will also be provided for the game and you can find all of the links on the softball schedule page.

LOOKING HEAD
