Akron, Ohio - Decimated by injuries, the Saint Francis women's volleyball team dropped its final two matches at the Akron Invitational on Saturday.
The Red Flash were once again without its top outside hitters, sophomores
Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch) and
Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East). Redshirt freshman
Alexa Mamone (Beaver, PA/Beaver Area) did everything she could to fill the void with a career-high 12 kills in SFU's morning match at Seton Hall, but it wasn't enough as the Pirates won in straight sets (17-25, 13-25, 15-25). Mamone also paced Saint Francis with 11 digs while junior
Shannon Thomas (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) registered a team-high 18 assists.
Saint Francis received a nice contribution from freshman
Rachel Langsdorf (Norwin, Pa./Norwin) in its second game of the day vs. Eastern Kentucky. Although the Colonels took the match in three sets (12-25, 6-25, 11-25), Langsdorf still managed to finish with five kills and five assists, both career-highs. Mamone added five kills, sophomore
Sophie Rice (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) had two blocks, Thomas recorded 16 more assists and freshman
Gabby Krug (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) led with seven digs.
Saint Francis returns to the hardwood next weekend at the Blue and White Classic hosted by the University of Buffalo with games vs. Buffalo, Canisius and Cornell.
