Men's soccer opens NEC play with two matches in the Empire State

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis men's soccer (3-3-0) opens NEC play with a pair of games this weekend at LIU on Friday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. and at St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
 
Scouting LIU
The Sharks are 3-4-0 on the season and coming off a 3-1 victory over Columbia on Monday. LIU previously lost four straight after opening the season with road wins at Old Dominion and VCU. Papa Ndoye leads the Sharks in points with six and goals with three. Ndoye was named NEC Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring goals in each of the past two contests. Stefan Faistenauer and Athanasios Coutroumpas each have four points with one goal and two assists.
 
Series History
This will be the first meeting with the restructured Long Island University. The Sharks combined both the LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post teams prior to this season.
 
Scouting St. Francis Brooklyn
The Terriers are 4-1-1 and coming off a 3-1 win over Manhattan on Saturday. St. Francis Brooklyn previously knocked off Howard 1-0 on Sept. 17. Khaled Abdella was tabbed NEC Co-Rookie of the Week after scoring goals in each of the past two contests. El Mahdi Youssoufi also has four points on two goals this season. The Terriers open NEC play at Central Connecticut State on Friday afternoon before returning home to host the Red Flash.
 
Series History
The Red Flash are 14-18-0 in the all-time series with St. Francis Brooklyn. SFU won last season's meeting 4-2 on Oct. 27, 2018 in Loretto. The Red Flash had previously dropped five straight to the Terriers before last season.
 
SFU in NEC Openers
Saint Francis has won four of its last five NEC openers, including last season's 4-2 win at Sacred Heart to kick off conference play on Sept. 28, 2018. The only loss for the Red Flash during that stretch came in a 5-3 defeat at CCSU on Oct. 8, 2017.
 
Spreading the Wealth
Lucas Rosa (Atibaia, Brazil/COC Atibaia) and Jonathan Neil (Caledon East, Ontario/Robert F Hall) lead the Red Flash with six points on three goals. Felix Tonne (Kolbotn, Norway) has four points with two goals, while Lucas Canineu (Corbin, Ky/Corbin) has four points with one goal and two assists. Kevin Smolyn (Holland, PA/Germantown Academy) has three points with a team-high three assists.
 
Two options between the posts
At goalkeeper, Jonas Dieseler (Duesseldorf, Germany/Lessing Berufskolleg) has a 2-1-0 record, nine saves, a 1.67 goals against average and a .643 save percentage. Alex Morgret (Hummelstown, Pa/Hershey) has a 1-2-0 record with seven saves, a 1.33 goals against average and a .636 save percentage.
