BOX SCORE Baltimore, Md. - The Saint Francis women's volleyball fell in four sets to George Mason (22-25, 17-25, 25-22, 11-25) in the final day of the UMBC Retriever Invitational despite a career-high 13 kills from sophomore
Keara McGraw (Austin, TX/James Bowie) and a team-high 16 killls and 11 digs from sophomore
Madi Tyus (Plano, TX/Bishop Lynch).
The Red Flash got off to a good start, racing to a 6-1 lead in the first set behind two kills each from Tyus and McGraw and one from sophomore
Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa East). UMBCÂ evened the match before Saint Francis regained the lead 18-17 on an ace from junior
Logan Belford (Loveland, Colo./Loveland). The set was tied at 20-20 but UMBC closed with five of the final seven points.
Saint Francis trailed set three 17-13 but clawed back to even the score at 17-17 on a kill by McGraw. Another McGraw kill with the score knotted at 20-20 gave SFU the lead for good and the set was clinched with an Adams kill with SFU leading 24-22.
Perhaps SFU exerted too much energy getting back into the match with the third set win, because the Patriots dominated the fourth set 25-11.
Saint Francis hit .117% for the match while George Mason was .265%.
Adams registered 10 kills while sophomore
Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, OH/Beaumont School) posted a career-high 36 assists.
