Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (2-5) fell to Ohio State (7-1) on Friday night, 3-0.
Set One
· SFU began the set with a quick 3-1 lead on two Buckeye service errors.
· Ohio State settled down and retook the lead 6-4.
· The Red Flash seemed to have tied it at six, but a challenge on the touch by Ohio State awarded the Buckeyes the point.
· From there, Ohio State slowly increased its lead, eventually extending it to 19-9.
· The teams traded points to close out the set, but Ohio State closed the set and won by nine.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash with five kills.
· Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) led with four assists.
· Final Score: Ohio State 25, SFU 16
Set Two
· After being tied at 3-3, Ohio State used a 6-2 run to lead 9-5.
· SFU was able to cut the lead to 10-9 before the teams traded blows for the rest of the set.
· Ohio State saw a 17-13 lead, but the Red Flash answered and tied the set at 17.
· The teams also saw ties at 20-23 points, but the Buckeyes scored the last to points for the set two win.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash in the set with four kills. Cole Carver (Hershey, PA/Hershey) added three.
· Szwabinsky chipped in nine assists.
· Final Score: Ohio State 25, SFU 23
Set Three
· Again, the teams traded points to start the set. SFU jumped out 3-1, then Ohio State answered with a 4-0 run of its own.
· After Ohio State's lead got to 9-5, the Red Flash stormed back and took the lead at 13-12, forcing a Buckeyes timeout.
· SFU tried to pull away in the set, reaching a 17-14 lead and eventually extending it to 21-17.
· Trailing 22-19, Ohio State put together a quick run to take the lead, 23-22.
· The teams eventually reached a tie at 24, forcing them to play past 25 for the third set.
· Tied at 25, Ohio State scored the final two points to take the set and match.
· Fisher registered six kills in the set.
· Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) added four kills and Szwabinsky had nine assists.
· Final Score: Ohio State 27, SFU 25
