Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (2-6) was swept by Ball State (5-3) on Saturday night at DeGol Arena.
Set One
· The teams exchanged long rallies to begin the match.
· No lead for either team was more than two until Ball State scored three unanswered points to go up, 12-9.
· The Cardinals slowly added to their lead, eventually getting it up to seven.
· Ball State maintained a 5-7 point lead for the rest of the set, winning by seven.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led the Red Flash with five kills, while Cole Carver (Hershey, PA/Hershey) added two.
· Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) registered eight assists.
· Final Score: Ball State 25, SFU 18
Set Two
· The Red Flash jumped out to an early 3-1 lead.
· Ball State then answered with a 7-3 run to regain the advantage.
· The teams traded blows as the set stayed close.
· The Cardinals held the lead around six starting at 20-14, and they eventually went on to win by seven.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) had six kills and a dig in the frame.
· Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) and Brandon Dunz (Lake View, NY/Frontier Senior High School) each added two kills.
· Szwabinsky had 10 assists and three digs.
· Final Score: Ball State 25, SFU 18
Set Three
· Ball State looked to close out the Red Flash in three and began the set leading 10-5.
· Slowly, the Cardinals added to their lead, reaching 15-8 then maintaining the lead at 6-7.
· The Red Flash used a last ditch effort to cut the Cardinals lead down to three at 21-18, but SFU could not get any closer as Ball State closed the set out by five and completed the sweep.
· Brandon Dunz (Lake View, NY/Frontier Senior High School) registered two block assists in the set.
· Fisher added three kills and Szwabinsky added nine assists.
· Final Score: Ball State 25, SFU 20
