SOMERSET, N.J. – The Saint Francis men's basketball team was selected to finish sixth in a poll of the Northeast Conference's 10 head coaches, as announced Wednesday as part of NEC Virtual Media Day.
The Red Flash, who have finished in at least a tie for third place in the regular season standings in each of the last four years, have earned an NEC Tournament seeding at or above their preseason projection the last three seasons. Saint Francis holds the NEC's best overall record since the start of the 2016-17 season at 75-55 (.577).
Saint Francis returns a group of key players who contributed to the program's third NEC title game appearance in the last four seasons, as seniors
Ramiir Dixon-Conover and
Mark Flagg, redshirt junior
Tyler Stewart,
and junior
Myles Thompson all averaged double-digit minutes during the previous campaign.
The NEC's head coaches were split on a preseason favorite, but Fairleigh Dickinson emerged as the No. 1 selection with six of 10 first-place votes. LIU, last year's preseason pick, was the top choice of the league's remaining four head coaches, earning the Sharks a No. 2 ranking. Bryant and Mount St. Mary's tied for third in the poll, while St. Francis Brooklyn rounded out the top five.
The Red Flash were trailed by Merrimack, Wagner, Central Connecticut, and Sacred Heart in the 10-team projection.
Saint Francis enters its ninth season with
Rob Krimmel at the helm in 2020-21. Krimmel's 119 victories entering the season rank second in program history.
Saint Francis is slated to begin the 2020-21 season the week of Thanksgiving. A non-conference schedule will be released soon.
