Emmitsburg, Md. – Saint Francis women's basketball (11-14, 9-5 NEC) was unable to overcome Mount St. Mary's (15-9, 10-2 NEC) in a 68-44 defeat on Saturday at Knott Arena.
Lili Benzel (Altoona, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle (Shippensburg)) led the Red Flash in scoring with 12 points on 4-of-6 from three-point range.

Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) three-pointer put the Red Flash ahead 3-2 in the early going. The Mountaineers then used a 20-0 run to close the period with a 22-3 lead.
SFU got off to a strong start in the second quarter with an 11-2 run that was sparked by a
Phee Allen (Newport News, VA/Woodside) jumper. An old-fashioned
Sam Miller (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) three-point play capped the surge to cut Mount St. Mary's lead to 23-14 with 6:15 remaining in the second period.
The Mountaineers responded with a quick 7-0 spurt before Benzel connected on a trifecta to narrow Mount's advantage to 30-17 with 4:05 to go. The Mountaineers pushed the lead to 38-19 until SFU closed the period on a 5-0 run to trim the halftime margin to 38-24.
Back-to-back Red Flash field goals to open the third quarter pulled SFU within 38-28. Mount St. Mary's then used a 12-1 run to extend the lead to 50-29 with 2:21 to play in the third period. A Benzel three-pointer narrowed the score to 50-32 at the end of the third stanza. The Mountaineers rolled in the fourth quarter to secure the victory over the Red Flash.
