Bloomington, IN. - The Saint Francis University Water Polo team was out west at the Indiana Classic hosted by the University of Indiana this past weekend. The Red Flash went 1-2, dropping two matchups against host Indiana University and California Baptist and winning in two overtimes against Villanova University.
The Red Flash dropped the first matchup of the day on Friday when they took on a tough competitor, in Indiana University. The Hoosiers overcame the Flash by a significant margin, outscoring SFU 14-6. There were only two long scorers for Saint Francis to accumulate the 6 points. Sophomore
Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate) accumulated 3 goals against Indiana. Freshman
Taylor Halbauer (Edmonton, Canada/Mother Maragret Mary) notched the other three goals for the Red Flash to give them their six goals of the game.
Saint Francis came out on top after two overtime periods against Villanova Univeristy, outscoring the wildcats 11-10. Freshman
Haiden Lang (Placentia, Calif/Esperanza High School ) tallied three goals for the Red Flash to help keep them in the game. Fellow Freshman
Addison Williams (Clovis, Calif/Sanger High School ) notched two goals herself to help the Flash win this matchup. Freshman
Carissa Semple (Sakatchewan, Canada) scored the tying goal with 00:42 seconds left in the game. Freshman
Taylor Halbauer (Edmonton, Canada/Mother Maragret Mary), had the game winner in two overtimes when she tallied her third goal of the matchup to give SFU the win.
The final matchup of the weekend was against California Baptist University where the Red Flash fell short to the Lancers, 12-4. SFU took 24 total shots, but was only able to find the back of the net four times. Freshman
Taylor Halbauer (Edmonton, Canada/Mother Maragret Mary) and
Addison Williams (Clovis, Calif/Sanger High School ) both had another goal each to add to her tally this weekend along with five total shots on goal. Junior,
Metztli Enriquez (Atwater, CA/El Capitan) found the back of the net for a goal in this matchup as well with four total shots on goal. Freshman
Carissa Semple (Sakatchewan, Canada) took six shots, and scored one as well.
The Saint Francis University Water Polo team goes 1-2 on the weekend, and will be back in action February 29th- March 1st when they head to the Michigan Invite in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
