Red Flash freeze the Zips

Akron, Ohio – The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team (1-2) picked up its first win of the season against the Akron Zips (0-4) on Sunday, 12-6.
 
Dominant Start

The Red Flash came out strong from the opening draw and drew first blood on a goal from junior Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy). The junior from Erie, Pa. was strong throughout the game, adding three more goals. Heidt's first half hat trick and two first half goals from junior Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) send the Red Flash into the locker room with a 7-1 lead at the half.
 
Strong Defense

SFU's defense held up its side of the bargain as well. Senior Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led the way logging four caused turnovers, four ground balls, five draw controls on the day. Sophomores Elyssa Enrique (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover)  and Lindsey Kilian (Woolwich, N.J./Kingsway Regional) combined to make nine saves on 15 shots.

  • The Red Flash dominated in shots, logging 36 to Akron's 19.
  • Saint Francis came up with 12 won draw controls to the Zip's eight.
  • Akron collected 24 ground balls to 16 for SFU.
Notes
  • Heidt's four goals were a career-high.
  • Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) recorded her second hat trick of the season with three goals, six draw controls and four ground balls.
  • Freshman Makenna Luzier (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) recorded her first career points with a goal and two assists.
  • Senior Livia Baker (Fallston, Md./Fallston High School) added a goal and an assist, caused two turnovers and registered three ground balls.
