Loretto, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (4-10, 1-4 EIVA) fell to #10 Penn State (9-6, 5-0 EIVA) on Tuesday night, 3-0.
Set One
· In front of a solid Loretto crowd, the Red Flash had an early 6-4 lead.
· Penn State didn't let the Red Flash lead get too large, and took a quick 8-7 lead.
· The teams continued to trade points and stayed within two of each other until the Nittany Lions took an 18-15 lead on a service ace.
· From there, Penn State scored seven of the final nine points to take the set by eight.
· Michael Fisher (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) led SFU with four kills and Blake Liprando (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley HS) added three on .400 hitting.
· Roman Szwabinsky (Columbus, Ohio/Westerville South) tallied 11 assists.
· Final Score: Penn State 25, SFU 17 (PSU leads 1-0).
Set Two
· Penn State jumped out to a 10-3 lead and forced a Red Flash timeout.
· The Nittany Lions continued to pour it on in the set and reached their biggest lead at 12-4.
· SFU slowly crept back into the set and cut the PSU lead down to five at 15-10, but the Nittany Lions answered with a 5-1 run to retake a nine-point lead.
· The Red Flash only scored two more points the rest of the set and PSU won by 12.
· Fisher and Brandon Dunz (Lake View, NY/Frontier Senior High School) each picked up two kills for the Red Flash.
· Szwabinsky had six assists.
· Final Score: Penn State 25, SFU 13 (PSU leads 2-0).
Set Three
· Penn State got out to an 8-4 lead and continued to stay up by 3-4 points until SFU cut it to two at 15-13.
· From there, the Nittany Lions finished the set on a 10-3 run to win the set by nine and take the match.
· In the set, Brandon Dunz (Lake View, NY/Frontier Senior High School) led SFU with three kills and Szwabinsky chipped in five assists.
· Final Score: Penn State 25, SFU 16 (PSU wins 3-0).
