Water Polo competes in Wolverine Invitational

Ann Arbor, MI. -  The Saint Francis University Water Polo team heads west to Michigan University to compete in the 2020, Wolverine Invitational after a one-week hiatus. Here they will face off against Long Beach State, Bucknell, Santa Clara, and Iona in the Canham Natatorium February 29th – March 1st.

How do the Red Flash match up? - SFU will have four games this weekend, two on Saturday and two on Sunday.

SFU has competed against Long Beach State a total of 3 times, making this the fourth career matchup between the two squads. SFU has not yet been able to come out on top against the sharks where they met twice in 2019, both with a score of 4-17. The other time was a matchup in 2017 where SFU lost 6-13. SFU and Long Beach State kick off at 10:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Saint Francis has matched up against Bucknell seven times but has not been able to come get a win against the bison. SFU took on the bison twice last year in 2019, with scores of 5-12 and 8-16. The Red Flash and the Bison start up at 4:20 p.m. Saturday evening.

SFU and Santa Clara will have their first career matchup this coming weekend. So far this season, the Broncos are 6-4 overall and coming off a three-game winning streak. SFU and Santa Clara will matchup starting at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The Red Flash and Iona will as well have their first career matchup this Sunday at 1:20 p.m. The Gaels are 2-6 on the season overall coming off a two-game win streak.

Player's to keep an eye on this weekend-
  • So. Breanna Dupperon (Regina, Canada/Campbell Collegiate) tallied 3 goals against a tough Indiana University squad
  • Fr. Taylor Halbauer (Edmonton, Canada/Mother Maragret Mary) found the back of the net 5 times two weekends ago, where in the second game made the game winner to give SFU the 11-10 win
  • Fr. Addison Williams (Clovis, Calif/Sanger High School ) had a total of three goals in two games two weekends ago
  • Fr. Carissa Semple (Sakatchewan, Canada) scored two on the weekend and made the tying goal in game two against Villanova where SFU came out on top
  • Fr. Haiden Lang (Placentia, Calif/Esperanza High School ) tallied a game high 3 goals in the SFU win over Villanova
