Red Flash fall to Mountaineers on Senior Day

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis University women's basketball team (11-17) fell to Mount Saint Mary's (14-2) on senior day at DeGol arena with a final score of 55-66. The Red Flash honored both senior Caitlin Carroll (Middletown, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) and redshirt senior Sam Sabino (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven (New Hampshire)) prior to the game.
 
Late Scoring Run
The Red Flash came to life late in the game creating a eight point deficit with 2:08 remaining in the game off a three-point field goal from junior Karson Swogger (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis). Sophomore center Jada Dapaa (Potomac, MD/Holy Child) drove to the basket and earned two free throws, making them both to cut the lead to six points with 1:17 left in the game. Junior Haley Thomas (Hooversville, PA/Bishop McCort) led the way just shy of a double-double finishing with 18 points and nine rebounds.
 

First Half
 The Mountaineers created the first play of the game at 7:47 in the first quarter off a fast break lay-up which started a 21-0 run for the Mountaineers. The Red Flash made their first basket off a free throw from junior Jenna Mastellone (New York City, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) at 1:10 remaining in the first quarter. The slow start wouldn't be held for long while the Red Flash pulled out two more free throw attempts by Mastellone and a two point jumper by Swogger to end the quarter at 23-5. The Red Flash came to life in the second quarter creating a 6-0 run for the first 90 seconds of the quarter. Going into halftime the Red Flash trailed by 20. 

Second Half
The Red Flash came out of the locker rooms with fire, outscoring the Mountaineers 37-28 in the second half. Dapaa and Thomas led the way creating plays, making baskets, and taking advantage of offensive rebounds. Freshman Sam Miller (Red Lion, PA/Dallastown) came up with a huge block with 1:13 left in the quarter to keep a 13 point deficit however, a last minute run had the Mountaineers going into the fourth quarter up 17 points. The Red Flash started the fourth quarter with a 4-3 run causing a Mount Saint Mary's timeout, which was maintained throughout the quarter where two back-to-back impressive 3-point field goals from Swogger cut the deficit to eight with 2:08 remaining on the clock. Dapaa got fouled on a shot with 1:17 remaining, cutting the lead to just six. This run wasn't enough for the Red Flash and finished with a score of 55-66.
 

Inside the Box Score
