Niagara, NY – The Saint Francis University women's lacrosse team (1-4) fell to Niagara University (2-3) this afternoon with a final score of 8-11. The Purple Eagles remain undefeated on home turf.
How It Happened
The Red Flash utilized their momentum in the first half and were fast acting in the beginning of the match making key plays and maintain their lead throughout the half. Senior
Lauren Ryan (Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep) capitalized first at 27:34. The Purple Eagles were able to respond to each goal from the Red Flash attack, even after a man-up situation goal attack from junior
Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) at 13:38 remaining in the first half. The Purple Eagles pulled away with the largest lead of the half at 4-6 with 4:19 remaining in the half. Senior
Livia Baker (Fallston, Md./Fallston High School) was able to take advantage of a man-up situation as the clock wound down and found the back of the net on a free-position with six seconds to spare to make the score 5-6 going into the locker rooms.
The Red Flash came into the second half with strong momentum to tie the game at 6-6 just shy of a minute into the half off a goal from Heidt for her second of the day. This wasn't enough and the Purple Eagles picked up some momentum of their own tacking on four unanswered goals within 13 minutes of play to make the score 7-11 with 13:01 remaining in the game. The Red Flash chipped away at the Purple Eagles lead, but couldn't make the final come back with a final score of 8-11.
