San Jose, Calif.- The Saint Francis softball team concludes their Californian spring break trip with six games in the Silicon Valley Classic II against San Jose State, Utah State (x2), #2 Washington, Santa Clara, and Saint Mary's.

Scouting San Jose State

The Spartans are 19-4 entering this weekend's tournament and they are receiving votes in the NFCA Top 25 poll. They went 4-2 in their last tournament and have been 19-2 since dropping the first two games of the season. They are hitting .334 as a team with 15 home runs and 137 runs scored. Suzy Brookshire is having a banner season batting .369 with eight home runs with 21 RBIs. Pitching has been strong with the pitchers compiling a 1.43 ERA. Ilona Sullivan has a 0.69 ERA in 30.1 innings with 25 strikeouts and only four walks. The fielding has compiled a .969 average. The Spartans are a solid team with a veteran core but a youthful infusion.

Scouting Utah State

Utah State is 9-10 and went 2-3 in their last tournament. They are batting .257 as a team with 12 home runs, 33 doubles, and 83 runs. Lexi Orozco is the leading hitter batting .333 with five doubles, three home runs, 14 RBIs, and a .500 OB%. Pitching has been average sporting a 4.12 ERA. Kapri Toone has been the staff ace with a 1.98 ERA in 42.1 innings, a 5-1 record, with 25 strikeouts and 17 walks. Fielding is .944 with 28 errors.

Scouting Washington

The Huskies are 19-2 and ranked #2 in the nation. They have faced a potent schedule filled with ranked teams and have complied an impressive mark against such teams. Despite the harsh schedule, Washington has hit .357 with 23 home runs, 37 doubles, and has scored 158 runs. Kelley Lynch leads the team with seven home runs. Baylee Klingler is the leading hitter with a .438 average and 27 RBIs. The team ERA is 2.96 with Pat Moore going 6-0 with a 2.10 ERA. The Huskies have committed only 12 errors.

Scouting Santa Clara

The Broncos are 7-13 on the season and have lost six straight games. The team is batting .275 with three home runs. Ashley Trierweiler is batting .357 with four doubles and six RBIs. She has also stolen seven bases. Lauren Anderson has been one of the leading pitchers with seven games started, 24 innings pitched, and a 4.67 ERA.  

Scouting Saint Mary's

The Gaels are 6-14 and enter the Classic on a two game losing streak. The team is batting .257 with Alex Casas hitting .341 with six doubles and seven RBIs. The pitching has a 5.18 ERA with Sofia Earle sporting a 3.98 ERA to lead the way. Opponents are batting .347 against the Gaels. Saint Mary's has committed 31 errors.

First Hits

At the Demarini Invitational, Avery Nagle (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) collected her first collegiate home run and Lauren Aubry (Marengo, Illinois/Marengo) and Emily Nunez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Alta Loma ) posted their first collegiate hits.
