Claremont, Calif. - The SFU Water Polo team went out west to Califronia this past weekend to compete in the Claremont Convergence tournament. Here they matched up against Pomona-Pitzer and California Baptist on March 6th, Loyola Marymount and Redlands on March 7th, and La Verne on March 8th. The Red Flash were able to get a win and also came up short twice.
Game Highlights - SFU went 2-3 on the weekend.
The first matchup of the weekend on Friday morning was against Pomona-Pitzer where the Red Flash lost 12-9. Lone senior
Erin O'Neill (Landsdale, Pa/North Penn) got the first goal of the game for SFU. O'Neill as well was the last scorer for the Red Flash during this matchup. Freshman
Taylor Halbauer (Edmonton, Canada/Mother Maragret Mary) scored three goals against the Sagehen's. Fellow Freshman
Addison Williams (Clovis, Calif/Sanger High School ) as well had a pair of goals in this matchup.
Next, the Red Flash took on a familiar competitor in California Baptist where they lost 3-12. Lyter, Halbauer, and Williams were the only scorers for SFU. So. Rosalina Rivera had eleven total saves in this defeat.
Saturday the Red Flash took on Loyola Marymount where they took a hard loss, 10-4.
Addison Williams (Clovis, Calif/Sanger High School ) added three more to her total in this game. Sophomore
Julia Bradford (Edinboro, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was the only other scorer for the Red Flash with one goal.
As well on Satruday, SFU took on the Redlands where they came out on top with an overtime win, 10-9. Halbauer scored the winning goal for the Red Flash in the 2:40 minute of the 7th period. Freshman
Carissa Semple (Sakatchewan, Canada) and
Abbie Carter (Abbotsford, Canada/St. John Brebeuf) added two goals each in SFU's second win of the weekend.
The last competition of the weekend was against the University of La Verne where the Red Flash edged out the leapords 10-9. Halbauer tallied three more goals to her total of the weekend. WIlliams as well added two more to her total. These two freshman were the leading scorers for SFU in California.
