CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Saint Francis men's volleyball team (1-2, 0-0) picked up its first win of the season Saturday, taking down Queens in four sets.

COACH RUMBAUGH'S COMMENTS
"We were much improved in the serving and passing today, which always helps. With such a short preseason I thought we had much better timing, but we still have a lot of catching up to do. Regardless, a win is a win and we'll take it."
HOW IT HAPPENED
· The teams stayed within three the majority of set one until Queens took an 18-14 lead.
· The lead for Queens in set one reached five. SFU cut it to three late but the Royals held on for a 25-21 win.
· Set two was another close one, with the teams staying within two until SFU took a 13-10 lead.
· SFU continued to dominate the set, scoring 11 out of 13 points in the middle of the set to take a 20-11 lead. SFU then closed out the set by seven to tie it at one.
· In set three, Queens pulled away by taking their biggest lead at 11-6.
· SFU was able channel the Royals' run, tying the set at 17 then taking an 18-17 lead.
· Tied at 18, the teams needed extra points, with SFU taking the set, 26-24, for a 2-1 lead.
· In set four, SFU was up 6-5 before scoring seven of the next eight points to take a 13-6 lead.
· The Red Flash never surrendered the lead, holding the Royals off and winning the set, 25-16 , for the first win of the season.
STATS
· Braden Richard led SFU with 13 kills. Alexander Finch added 12.
· Richard also tied the game-high with 16 total points.
· Roman Szwabinsky picked up a game-high 40 assists.
· Brandon Dunz and Richard each picked up four block assists.
· SFU led in kills (47-42), assists (44-40), aces (11-3) and hitting percentage (.226-.202)
· The teams were tied in blocks (9-9), and Queens had a slight advantage in digs (40-37).
GAME NOTES
· The win gives the Red Flash a 3-1 series history vs. Queens.
· It also gives SFU its first win of the season.
UP NEXT
The Red Flash will travel back to Loretto to open up the home slate, a Friday/Saturday matchup with King at 7 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.
