Karson Swogger Named NEC Player of the Week, Lili Benzel Named NEC Prime Performer

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced its weekly women's basketball awards on Monday. Senior guard Karson Swogger was named NEC Player of the Week and an NEC Prime Performer. Redshirt junior guard Lili Benzel also received NEC Prime Performer honors.

Swogger continued to lead Saint Francis' offense last week as the Red Flash swept Bryant on the road and improved to 6-0 in conference play. Swogger recorded a pair of 20-point games while also averaging three assists, 2.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game against the Bulldogs.

On Thursday, she scored a season-high 22 points as she shot 58.3 percent from the floor and was a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Swogger followed with a game-high 20 points in the Friday win, totaling five assists and tying a career-high four steals. She shot 50 percent from three-point range, sinking three triples for the third time this season. Swogger also had seven made free throws in Friday's game, including a pair with 22 seconds remaining to seal the victory. This season, she's averaging 15.1 points, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game to lead the Red Flash.

This is the fourth time this season that Swogger has been named NEC Prime Performer, previously earning this honor on December 7, December 23 and January 11. This is the first time this season that Swogger has been named NEC Player of the Week.

Benzel continued to make an impact on offense as the Red Flash swept Bryant on the road and improved to 6-0 in conference play. Benzel averaged 15.5 points and 2.0 steals per game against the Bulldogs, notching her eighth and ninth games in double figures this season.

On Thursday, she totaled 13 points, shooting 46.2 percent from the floor. Benzel totaled 18 points on Friday, her second-highest mark of the season, tying her season-high two assists and two steals. She scored the first seven points on the floor in the fourth quarter, giving Saint Francis a lead it would not relinquish.

Benzel continues to be a reliable three-point shooter for the Red Flash as she extended her streak to 21 consecutive games with a made three-pointer. This season, Benzel leads SFU in three-point makes (28) and percentage (34.6), and is second on the team with 11.5 points and 0.8 steals per game.
This is the first time this season that Benzel has been named an NEC Prime Performer.
