» Dolores Zavaleta (San Juan, Argentina) registered the decisive goal in penalty shootout to give Saint Francis University the 2-1 win in penalty strokes to secure a 4-3 win against Georgetown in non-conference field hockey action on Sunday.
» The freshman also assisted the final two goals in regulation to force overtime.
» Claudia Ortiz (Madrid, Spain) notched two goals while Riley Kromer (Lancaster, N.Y.) also found the twine for the first time in her career on the afternoon.
» The win was the second-straight win for the Red Flash.
TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
Trailing 3-1 in the final six minutes, Kromer scored off feeders from
Eva Valentini (Junin, Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Zavaleta at 54:22, and then the Valentini-Zavaleta duo set up Ortiz four minutes and 30 seconds later to even the score at 3 and to force overtime. Georgetown out shot Saint Francis 6-2 in overtime, and
Chloe South (Lusby, Md.) made a save in the first extra session before the match was decided by a penalty shootout. Valentini and Zavaleta each converted their PS attempts to secure the win.
FLASH MOMENTS
Trailing 2-0, Ortiz found the back of the cage unassisted at 33:53 to start the comeback. The junior then tied the game with 68 seconds to go to send the game to overtime.
South made four saves in the match.
FLASH NUGGETS
The hero, Zavaleta, came into the weekend with one career assist against Lock Haven and posted three assists on the weekend after also handing out an assist on Ortiz's game-winner against Sacred Heart on Friday.
Ortiz posted three goals on the weekend, and now is tied with Valentini with six goals, while adding three assists for 15 points to sit second on the team in points.
Valentini dished out two assists in a match for the second time in four games and has five of her six assists in that span. The freshman leads the team with six goals and six assists for 18 points.
It was the second-straight win for the Red Flash against Georgetown after defeating the Hoyas 2-1 in overtime in 2019.
