Women’s Volleyball Falls to Central Connecticut State University Saturday

» Saint Francis University women's volleyball fell to the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University, 3-1 on Saturday.
» Despite the loss, the Red Flash had a team hitting percentage of .406 in the winning third set and the team combined for 56 kills in the match.
» The Red Flash now go 3-1 in Northeast Conference play and 7-9 overall.
» Friday and Saturday marked the first conference road play games for the Red Flash in 687 days since the 2019 season.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The Red Flash found the spark it needed towards the end of the second set to go on and claim the third set, 25-14. The squad went on a four nothing run to start the set off and never allow the Blue Devils to take the lead in the set. The biggest lead of the set and the match was an 11-point deficit when the squad led 19-8.

FLASH MOMENTS
Saturday's matchup was an all-out battle between both programs.
 
The Blue Devils claimed the first set, 25-18 and maintained control in the second set even though the Red Flash came very close to securing the set. A service ace from Maggie Means (Connellsville, Pa./ Connellsville Area) drew out the set and put the Red Flash on top, 25-24. However, the Blue Devils hustled back to claim the extended set, 27-25.
 
The Blue Devils came back out in the fourth and final set to maintain control to begin with and even lead by as much as four points. However, the Red Flash were not giving up that easy. With a couple of combined kills from Sophie Rice (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch), the team tied the set-up, 17-17 and go on a four nothing run. Central Connecticut hustled back to tie the set and went on to claim the fourth and final set, 25-23.


FLASH NUGGETS
Emma Fenton (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) recorded a career high of 51 assists in a single match.
 
Maggie Means led the team in digs with 26 on the day.
 
Madi Tyus led her squad with 23 kills and two aces in the game. Followed behind Tyus was Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa East) with 17 kills and once ace on the day.
 
Sophie Rice and Aubrey Deptula (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community) put up two blocks a piece for the Red Flash on Saturday.


UP NEXT
The Red Flash return to Loretto on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. to take on the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson University.
