Women’s Volleyball Claims Victory over Merrimack in Straight Sets, 3-0

» Saint Francis University women's volleyball claimed the victory over Merrimack College on Friday, 3-0 to go 7-2 in Northeast Conference play.
» Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa East) led the team with 17 kills on the day. Followed closely behind was this past week's Rookie of the Week, Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) with 15 kills in the match. The rookie led her squad in aces and digs as well with four and 11, respectively.
» Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) led the Red Flash squad in assists with 39. Sweeney also had a whopping .500 hitting percentage in the match.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The Red Flash started off the first set with a 6-0 run to never allow Merrimack to claim the lead in the first set. After back-to-back kills from Hogan and Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch), Saint Francis clinched the first set, 25-15. The Red Flash were fueled from claiming the first set to be able to go on and claim the match in straight sets, 3-0.

FLASH MOMENTS
Although the Warriors were able to tie the second set early on at 1-1 and again 5-5, the Merrimack squad was still unable to put a lead over the Red Flash in the second set. A kill from Sweeney secured the second set for the Red Flash squad, 25-18.
 
The Warriors claimed its first lead early in the third set 1-0. The third set continued to go back and forth early on to tie on several occasions. While SFU claimed the two-point advantage 5-3, the Warriors took the lead again to make the score 9-8 in the set. However, a kill from Hogan gave the Red Flash the lead in the third set to make the score, 13-12. Following Hogan's kill, Saint Francis went on a 5-0 run. A service ace from Maggie Means (Connellsville, Pa./ Connellsville Area), followed by a service error from the Warriors, clinched the third set for the Red Flash, 25-18.

FLASH NUGGETS
The victory on Friday marked the third time that the Red Flash have beat the Warriors in straight sets and the second time this season.
 
Also, this victory marks the fifth straight-set win for the Red Flash this season.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will stay in Loretto to take on the Bulldogs of Bryant University Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4:00 p.m.
