Red Flash Volleyball Defeats St. Francis Brooklyn to Close out Regular Season

» Saint Francis University women's volleyball defeated the Terriers of St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, 3-1 to close out regular season action.
» Sophie Rice (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) recorded a single match career high of kills in the game with nine on the day to defeat her previous career high of eight kills that came against Long Island University earlier this season.
» Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch) and Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa East) combined for 41 kills in the match.
» The Red Flash will go up against tournament host, Bryant University in the first round of the Northeast Conference on Friday, Nov.19.

TURNING POINTS OF THE GAME
The Red Flash found its spark in the second set. The Terriers got on the board first in the set, but that was the only time the Brooklyn squad would lead in the second set. The Red Flash followed up by going on a 3-0 run to make the score 3-1 to give Saint Francis an early lead in the set. The Terriers came back to tie the set to make the score 3-3, but the Red Flash did not allow St. Francis Brooklyn to take lead by going on a 6-0 run to make the score 9-3. Saint Francis claimed the biggest lead of the of the match in this set by an 11-point margin to make the score 18-17. After a kill from Tyus, the Red Flash secured the second set, 25-18. The Red Flash were powered by wining the second set to be able to go on and claim the next two sets to ultimately win the match, 3-1.

FLASH MOMENTS
The first set went back and forth with both teams taking the lead on several occasions. With the Terriers leading in the set, 17-16 the Red Flash were able to go on a 3-0 run after another kill from Tyus to make the score 19-17. Saint Francis maintained the lead until the Terriers were able to come back and tie the set at 20-20 and that was the fuel St. Francis Brooklyn needed to claim its only set of the day in the first set, 25-22.

The Red Flash led with a score of 3-2 early on in the third set and although the Terriers tied a few times the Red Flash held St. Francis Brooklyn from taking the lead until almost mid-way through the third set when St. Francis Brooklyn made the score 11-10 to take the lead. With the third set tied 21-21, combined kills from Tyus and Adams gave Saint Francis the lead. A kill from Rice allowed the Red Flash to take the third set, 25-22.

The Terriers scored the first point of the fourth set, but the Red Flash responded with a 4-0 run to never allow St. Francis Brooklyn to lead again in the fourth set. A kill from Rice sealed the fourth and final set for the Red Flash, 25-22.

FLASH NUGGETS
Aubrey Deptula (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton Community) matched her career high kills in single game in the match with seven.

Rice led her squad in hitting percentage on the day with putting up a .438 in the game.

Tyus collected a double-double on the day with 20 kills and 23 digs.

UP NEXT
The Red Flash will take on tournament host Bryant University in the first round of the Northeast Conference tournament on Friday, Nov. 15. Match time to be announced.
