SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced its annual Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each winter sport on Wednesday. Senior guard
Karson Swogger was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's basketball for the second-consecutive season.
Swogger graduated with a 3.78 GPA (magna cum laude) and a nursing degree this spring. Swogger was named All-NEC First Team following the completion of the season. She also surpassed the 1,000-career point mark this past season, doing so on February 4 inside DeGol Arena.
"What an outstanding achievement for Karson to receive this award in back-to-back years," said Whittington. "She was a very diligent student who wanted to make the highest possible grades and was just as committed to being the best basketball player she could be."
Swogger earned an NEC Player of the Week nod on January 18, was named College Madness NEC Player of the Week three times and NEC Prime Performer seven times this season. She led the Red Flash in six categories while leading the NEC in scoring (15.9 ppg), assist/turnover ratio (2.6) and total assists (98). Swogger ranked in the top 10 in the NEC in four additional categories. She also had the fifth-highest free-throw percentage in a single season in program history (.861).
