MORGANTOWN, W.V. - Saint Francis University lost to West Virginia University in a women's soccer non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Emma Sawich (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township), who started her first regular season collegiate game, made seven combined saves in the loss. The freshman Sawich turned away four shots in the first 45 minutes, while in the 2nd half Sawich made three saves to close out the game for the Red Flash. Â
Saint Francis wasn't able to register a shot for the duration of the game due to a stagnant West Virginia defense that continuously kept the pressure on the Red Flash offense.
The Red Flash had two players participate in all 90 minutes of the game being freshman defender
Bella Pesce (Hamilton, N.J./ Notre Dame), and defender
Ellie Aston (Leamington Spa, United Kingdom/ North Leamington).Â
West Virginia scored four times in the first half and once in the second stanza for a 5-0 win in the sixth meeting between the two programs.Â
The Red Flash return home on Wednesday, September 15 to take on La Salle University. Match time is 7:30 p.m. Saint Francis will then make its Northeast Conference debut at Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday, September 19 at 12 pm.Â
