Women's Soccer Falls In Nail Biter To La Salle, 1-0

LORETTO, PA - Saint Francis University lost to La Salle University 1-0 in the final non-conference matchup of the season for the Red Flash women's soccer team on Wednesday.

Sarah McConnon (Springfield, Pa./Lower Merion Club) made nine saves in the loss. McConnon was able to keep the Red Flash within striking distance with five saves in the first half and four more stops in the second half. A highlight from the Saint Francis goalkeeper came with eight minutes remaining in the game where McConnon challenged La Salle forward Kelli McGroarty and made a beautiful one on one save to prevent the Explorers from extending the lead. Going into conference play McConnon has now registered 34 saves so far in her sophomore campaign.

Saint Francis registered one shot in the first half and two scoring chances in the second half for a total of three shots on the night.

Lauren Pyle (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) missed wide left in the 12th minute for the Red Flash's only scoring chance in the opening frame. In the second half, Leanna Choo (Germantown, Md./Northwest) shot the ball while falling down but the La Salle goalkeeper made a diving save to keep the Red Flash off the board in the 53rd minute. Ellie Aston (Leamington Spa, United Kingdom/North Leamington) produced Saint Francis' other shot but missed wide left in the 72nd minute which was the final scoring chance for the Red Flash.

La Salle scored once in the first half which ended up being the game-deciding goal in the third meeting between the two programs.

The Red Flash start NEC play on Sunday, September 19 when they travel to face Fairleigh Dickinson University. Match time is 12 p.m. Saint Francis will then return home when they face Central Connecticut on Sunday, September 26 at 11 a.m.
