PRINCESS ANNE, MD.- The Saint Francis University Red Flash fell 3-1 in its first game of the Hawk Women's Volleyball Invitational to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday.
Despite the loss, Maggie Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa./Northern Cambria) recorded a career high in kills in a single match with 12 kills, tying with squad leader Nicole Adams (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa East) and coming in behind Madi Tyus (Plano, Texas/Bishop Lynch), who had 13 on the day. The freshman easily surpassed her collegiate career high of six kills against Youngstown State University earlier this season.Â
Skye Eicher (Rostraver Township, Pa./Frazier) also shattered her own personal record book during the match by recording a .333 hitting percentage to beat her career high of .250 in the team's game against Siena last week.Â
Kimmy Sweeney (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) dominated yet again in her setter position, posting 42 assists on the day to help the Red Flash in the game and to claim the first set.Â
Saint Francis grabbed a 16-11 lead only to see the Hawks come back and tie the first set at 17-all and again at 21-all. Sophie Rice (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) gave the Red Flash the lead for good on a kill. The squad won the final three points on Sweeney's serve on a pair of Tyus kills and a service ace.

The second set was even between the two teams, but with the score tied at 19, UMES closed the half on a 6-1 run to earn the 25-20 second set and even the match at a set apiece.Â
The third set went to UMES after they took the advantage at 12-11 and used a 14-7 run to close out the set for a 25-18 win.
With the score knotted at 16 in the fourth set, the Hawks closed the set out by winning nine of the final 14 points to close out the 3-1 match win with a 25-21 four-set decision.
The sets were close together, closing out at, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.Â
The Red Flash will move forward in the Hawk Invitational Saturday as the squad takes on Hampton University. Match time is 12:30 p.m.
