LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - After a tough loss to Duquesne University on Wednesday, Saint Francis University was able to earn its first victory at Rider University with a 1-0 decision in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday thanks to a goal by Jeff ThielmannĀ (Bad Homburg, Germany/Ngo Bockenheim) in the 51st minute.
Thielmann found the ball land right at his feet on a corner kick serve from Alexios Rodriguez (Silver Spring, Md./DeMatha Catholic). For Thielmann, it notches his 2nd goal of the season and for Rodriguez, he gathered his 1st point of his career with the assist.
In goal, Jonas Diesler (Duesseldorf, Germany/Lessing Berufskolleg) posted his first clean sheet of the season and the eighth of his career in net for the Red Flash. Diesler faced a total of 13 shots, four on goal, all of them being turned aside to ensure the lone goal was enough to get Saint Francis in the win column.
Saint Francis has defeated Rider both times it has played it each other in program history.
Saint Francis now moves to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Williamsburg, Va. to play William & Mary on Friday, September 10 at 5 p.m.
