PHILADELPHIA – Men's tennis had six players compete at the fall 2022 ITA Regional Qualifier at the University of Pennsylvania over the weekend.
Marc Fuste led Saint Francis with its only win at the tournament 6-2, 7-5 over Jamie De Jariaz of Rider. Fuste's loss was against Yale's Vignesh Gogineni, who was one of 16 players to qualify for the final day of singles matches on Oct. 10.
Both
Andrew Teixeira and
Fabio Varella suffered three-set defeats in the tournament. Teixeira lost to St. Bonaventure's Norka Sanchez 6-7 (2), 6-3, 5-7, while Varella lost 4-6, 7-6 (5), 3-6 to St. John's Roger Rogowski.
Adam Kush was the fourth Red Flash player in singles and lost 3-6, 1-6 to Princeton's Alan Kam.
In doubles, Kush and Varella lost to Lehigh's Marc Blekhman and Matt Kleiman 8-5, while
Christian Banti and
Jordi Garcia lost to NJIT's Nejc Skorjanc and Josh Smith 8-4.
Men's tennis is scheduled to conclude its fall season Oct. 15-16 with a second trip to the Bloomsburg Invitational.
