Volleyball Set for Trip to Brooklyn

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
>> Saint Francis University women's volleyball will hit the road to Brooklyn, N.Y. this weekend to take on Long Island University on Friday, Oct. 14 and St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Oct.15. Both matches will start at 5:00 p.m.
 
>> Both matches this weekend can be followed live on NEC Front Row. 
 
THE WORD ON LIU
The Sharks stand at 9-8 overall and 4-1 in the NEC with the team's only conference loss coming in its conference opener to Sacred Heart in four sets. However, the team currently has a four-game winning streak after defeating Central Connecticut State, St. Francis Brooklyn, Stonehill and Merrimack for LIU to stand at second in the NEC.
 
Barbora Hoskova currently leads LIU with 154 kills on the season, while Karolina Nova and Anastasia Scott both lead the team in service aces with 19 apiece. Scott also leads the Sharks as a libero with 320 digs this season.
 
LAST TIME WE MET LIU
The Red Flash went 1-1 last season against the Sharks. The first match came in Loretto, for Saint Francis to defeat the visitors over five sets. However, when the Red Flash traveled to Brooklyn last season, the Sharks claimed the straight set win.
 
The Sharks hold the overall advantage to the Red Flash at 38-11.
 
THE WORD ON ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN
The Terriers are currently 8-14 overall and 1-4 in NEC play. Most recently, St. Francis Brooklyn went 1-1 last weekend after dropping in a four-set match to Merrimack on Friday and defeating Stonehill in four sets.
 
Camelia Melendez leads the Terriers offensively with 251 kills and 29 service aces on the season, while Monica Vargo leads the team as a setter with 288 assists on the season. Alasha Colon and Cristal Paulino lead the Terriers defensively, Colon with 223 digs and Paulino with 58.0 blocks.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn will first take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Oct. 14 before facing the Red Flash on Saturday, Oct. 15.
 
LAST TIME WE MET ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN
Saint Francis went 2-0 against the Terriers last season. The first win coming in Brooklyn over four sets and the second win coming in Loretto over four sets as well.
 
The Red Flash hold the advantage to the Terriers at 38-9 in the overall series.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Red Flash currently stands at 5-13 overall and 3-2 in conference to be ranked fourth in the conference. The team went 1-1 last weekend by claiming a five-set reverse sweep over Central Connecticut State and dropping in a five-set thrilling match to Sacred Heart.
 
Three Red Flash women's volleyball players earned the recognition of the NEC this past week after their grand performances with Emma Fenton being named NEC Player of the Week, Korrin Burns being named NEC Rookie of the Week and Madi Tyus earning a spot on the NEC Prime Performer list.
 
Maggie Hogan and Tyus lead the Red Flash in kills this season with 163 a piece, while Fenton continues to lead the team a setter with 557 assists on the season. Aubrey Deptula continues to lead the team with 53.0 blocks on the season.  
 
UP NEXT
Following this weekend's matches, the Red Flash will return home for a match against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 5:00 p.m.
